Sometimes I get stuck in a creativity rut. I want to be Martha Stewart but my creativity is clumsy and flawed at best. My ideas are often greater than my sheer will to make it a reality.
Crafty mamas, what do you create? How did you find your niche? And how much error did it take before you created your masterpiece?

8 Lovin's:
I don't sell my creations. Right now my creativity is going to get a more organized home.
I've tried a lot of crafts over the years, but only one has ever been something that I love doing: sewing. I fortunately had a wonderful teacher and inspiration, my older sister, and with her guidance I was able to become very good and proficient quickly. I started by making clothes for my children, then making my own clothes, and since we've been trying to add to our family again, I've been sewing baby clothes and diapers. For me, it's the best of both worlds. I've found something that I love doing, and in doing this thing, I give back to my family in a tangible way. I never feel like I'm wasting time creating something that we can actually use. :)
i have always been an artsy girl; what i lack is the patience that you sometimes need for creativity! :)
That being said, I'm not sure if I have a niche, per say, but I love doing portrait work, and I have also recently opened up shop selling classic children's toys (with a rock-n-roll twist, of course!) on Etsy. It continues to be a tough road, what with all of the new laws and such, but i really love making toys- I think it spawns from my love of shopping for cute, alternative stuff for my own kid! The rock-n-roll style is everywhere right now: clothes, bedding, etc....but not toys. I just wanted to fill that void. Plus, I just love toys, and this gives me an excuse to play with them, haha :)
wow. this turned into a long comment- that's what you get for asking questions! :)
Sewing is definitely NOT my thing! It gets on my nerves and I can never get it to look as nice as I would like, not to mention how much prep work and dragging things out and putting them up it takes! lol
I am very glad to have found knitting a while back though! I think it is just a good fit for me and the portability of it is a must when you have to stop or put it down to chase after kids ;)
Everyone has to start somewhere though and not everyone just 'gets it' and can make beautiful stuff over night. It takes practice!
I hope you find yours, GL!
This is a really good question! Its going to sound odd but sometimes if my "thing" is writing and I've hit a block, then I just start doing something new. I go to a museum, or learn to knit, or paint...like creative cardio :) Then it seems that something hits me and suddenly tons of juices are flowing. I can write for hours AND end up creating something from a different means as well. The results at first aren't always perfect but sometimes we all hit bumpy patches. That's the perfect time to try something new! Then when you go back to sewing, or writing or whatever your true passion is you'll probably be a lot more satisfied with those creations.
My crafting has evolved a lot. I started by making Kaden's birth announcement and then fell in love with card making. Then I became obsessed with mod podge. Then painting wood (not drawing, just painting). Then it was furniture re-dos or woodworking (making shelves). I used to absolutely HATE sewing. I would get super frustrated on the simpliest project and swear to never sew again. But then I pulled out my sewing machine one last time to try making a tie for Kaden and it just clicked. Now my favorite is sewing. I haven't sewn clothes but love making baby items like nursing covers, burp clothes, etc. I cannot wait to find out the gender of this little one so I can get started on making a crib set.
Honestly, I'm not all the creative. I'm good at seeing something that I like and re-creating it. I get all my ideas from Martha Stewart or crafty blogs. Hardly any are original but I'm okay with that. As long as I give credit where credit is due.
I like to make cards. I can make simple ones when I don't have much time or intricate ones when I do have the time. Following from MBC--please stop by and visit me at www.ann-crabs.blogspot.com. Don't miss my giveaways!
I only create messes. They are fabulous messes, though!!!
