life with 2 under 2...the first week.

Well, can I just begin by saying that I am so glad that the first week at home with my two boys is over and done with? What a wild ride it was! Between exhaustion, emotions, and beginning the adjustment to double the responsibility, it was pretty rough. But thankfully we are adapting to our now-larger family and getting to the point where things are feeling normal. The transition to two was certainly more of a challenge than I had ever imagined. It is one of those things you know beforehand, but you can't really know until you are in the middle of it just how much work it will be.
Brax is a sweet baby. He sleeps pretty well for a newborn, but he is a newborn and therefore I am pretty tired. I had forgotten what it was like to have to change diapers multiple times a night and I look forward to the day when I no longer have to do that. He still sleeps about 20 hours a day, which has made for a smooth transition for both me and Moose. I still have plenty of time to play with him and be the mommy I was before. The hard times come when both boys need to be fed at the same time or Brax cries while I am diapering Moose. I pretty much have to just let him fuss while I get Moose his dinner or finish putting his diaper on. It is totally different than your first baby when you can be at their every beck and call. Moose is having to learn patience too. If he finishes his dinner before I am done nursing he has to just sit and wait for Brax to finish before I can unbuckle him out of his booster. Patience is good, though, and both boys will benefit in the long run.
I don't think Moose even remembers not having Brax around. He looks forward to seeing him and loves to clobber him with snuggles and pokes and prods. He can be a little rough, but 95% of the time its just out of not knowing how or why he has to be gentle. The other 5% is when he tests my patience so see how far he can push me before he gets punished. He is a typical big brother!

Going out is both my best friend and my worst foe. Staying home all day makes me feel a bit trapped, and taking the boys out provides welcome entertainment, fresh air and sunshine. However, simple tasks like making a run to Target are that much more difficult because I have to figure out how to safely get both boys in and out of the cart. It is also that much more stressful when Moose is yelling to get out and walk and Brax is fussing to nurse. Thankfully for now I am able to plan my outings with my husband, which is such a blessing.

So there you have it! A long-winded version of some of the trials and triumphs of our first week at home as a family of four.

So glad D is around for errands, etc, for the moment. I can't imagine having another for Target errands, B is a handful as it is!

Thanks for this post. I am 30wks pregnant with my second boy and would love to hear any advice you have on how to make this transition smoothly. I know you can't really be totally ready, but love hearing how others cope!

Congrats on your new baby boy! My two baby boys are only 18 months apart. I know how hard it can be. It is like having twins a lot of times.

My oldest two are also only 20 months apart. It has been pretty crazy trying to manage homeschooling my two oldest, taking care of two babies, caring for my home, and managing my blog all at the same time.

Hang in there, I remember when my first son was a baby never going anywhere because I thought it was so hard. I laugh at that now because I have grocery shopped with all 4 this time around! You will get the hang of it. :-)

Congrats! Life with 2u2 is crazy and sometimes I wonder what I got myself into. I tell myself how great they will be for each other and how much fun we will have as a family once this stage of diapers, puke, and screaming is over. Not that poop isn't fun and all, but you know what I mean. ;)

Hang in there! I'm about to "graduate" as #1 is turning 2 next week.

Congratulations!

I don't know how Mom's of two or more do it. One is exhausting me :)

Awwww, he's cute Madison! 2 under 2 will get A LOT easier over time. Plus, Moose and Brax will probably become great friends. Kudos to you for making it out of the house alone with both kids!!!

Congrats! Sounds like you are doing a great job! It took me a lot longer to adjust from 1 to 2 - now I also have my nephew around so having 3 is no big deal LOL

I'm so happy for you guys Mad, Brax is as adorable as Moose is!! Having two (no matter the ages) is always a little challenging to get the hang of...but after a few more weeks, you won't even remember that is was even kind of difficult:) Congrats and good luck over the next few weeks!

P.S. Is it weird for anyone else to get so excited for someone you don't "really" know?

What a gorgeous family!! I also had 2 kids under 2. My daughter was 21 months when my son was born. While it can be very hectic, it's nice when they get older and can actually play together. In fact, at 16 and 17, they are like best friends, which is awesome (most of the time!)

I saw you on the Conservative group in MBC and wanted to stop by and say hello! If you get a chance to stop by my blog, that would be great! I hope to see more pics as the boys get older!!

Congrats on the new bundle of joy! He is too precious!

For the shopping trips...you should try a carrier for Brax. I looooove my Ergo (LOVE IT!!) and they have an infant insert that would be perfect. Hope this helps!
