I've been researching a lot lately about making the "big switch" from Blogger to Wordpress. Overall it seems really complicated and confusing (and potentially expensive), but what keeps me thinking about it is the fact that by posting on Blogger, Google owns all of your content, pictures, videos...everything. I don't like that. I much prefer the idea of owning my own content (for very obvious reasons). However, I'm still in the process of weighing the pros and the cons.
I'd love and appreciate any feedback from anyone, Blogger or Wordpress user. I'd particularly love to hear from people who switch from Blogger to Wordpress about how tough the process was, the cost differences, and how long it took to master Wordpress.

I've been working on it all day. You start to figure it out after hour 14 I think.
:)
I have wanted to switch over, but am not ready until becoming 100% set on a permanent blog name. Someday, though, I plan to switch.
Since you already own your own domain, I say go for it!
So far it hasn't cost me anything. I customized a theme that was a wordpress layout... It is difficult. But only for the first little while. Once I started to figure out which thing controlled what, I was okay. Still having a few difficulties.
It has not, so far, cost me anything. But, I already had my domain, and my host (netfirms) has wordpress as a perk, so they installed it onto my site for me. Whatever your host is they might do the same.
I definitely love what I can do, and I'm excited because I have so much more to learn.
But for a first wordpress customization I think I'm doing A-OKAY. And honestly, I can't wait to see what layouts I come up with as I get more skilled.
It's been fun as a challenge.
But! Wordpress does (ha!) technically prohibit ads.
I used Wordpress for a while for my business blog, I really thought the way it was set up was more difficult and the options seemed to be less. I definitely prefer blogger, however I can also understand the issue of the photos, etc. For me blogger was a better option. JMHO
I started with WP and it's def got a learning curve. But it's manageable. If you surf the forums and use your friends you can figure it all out. It's not 'that' expensive. I spend about $10 a year for my name and about $50 for hosting. (GoDaddy) Good luck with your decision...I'm glad I use WP.
I set up a WP blog and have worked at it for about a month...probably longer and still can't stand it. In my opinion having google "own" my site is just a tiny price to pay for the ease of blogger. Even after "learning" WP I chose to set up my official author website under blogger AND have gone so far as to set up my new "project" website under it as well. That project will be a full blown non-profit org in less than a year and there is no other platform I'd rather use for it than blogger.
I think each person just has to decide what they want and what they are willing to pay. I'm not willing to pay for things over there that I can do for free on blogger. That's my bottom line. But its different for everyone. Blogger isn't for each person out there and neither is WP!
I started out with blogger and been enjoying its user-friendly functions. and for the similar reason with yours, i do up another blog for my scrapbooking under WP. my goodness, till now i still can't stand it! it took me ages to figure out how on earth to hide the blog title with my blog logo, and still am working on it.... hence this somehow made me not updating my WP blog regularly. the anger of not getting anyway after hours of trying...
my personal blog is under blogger, so loving it.
although many said its a breeze to migrate from blogger to WP with a few hits of buttons... but... not for me! at least for now i won't get myself into this (yet).
Bloggers owns all your content and photos? I did not know this!! I am so stupid!
I moved from Blogger quite a while ago. For an HTML coding savvy person like me, I did have a bit of a time getting things moved, but it was definitely worth all the time I spent and the continuous learning I'm doing now.
Thanks for that information about Blogger owning my stuff. I never knew that which makes me even happier that I made the move.
