Nope.
With one particular digital company (I hear commercials for daily on the radio) you can DVR four different shows on four different TVs and watch them all in different rooms. No more bumping elbows to get to the popcorn. No more sharing blankets. No more fighting over whether or not to change the channel during commercial.
Why communicate with your family? Why teach your kids the valuable lesson of sometimes having to give up or postpone what they want for others? Instant gratification, baby, that's what I'm talkin' about.
Just think, now your husband can come home to you watching soaps in the bedroom, your kids plopped in front of Barney in their individual rooms, and an open couch for him to watch the game. Its not like he'd be eager to play with his kids before their bedtime or anything. And dinner? Who needs to spend so much time making dinner when you can just pop it in the microwave for five minutes and eat out of the plastic tray?
Heck, who needs machine-washable utensils and dinnerware at all? Paper and plastic are so much easier. Imagine how little mess you'd have to clean. And since everyone eats dinner at different times in different rooms there's no need to wipe the table or clean serving platters. Its better this way, so we don't all annoy each other tweeting on our iPhones about how overcooked the steak is and whyohwhyarewehavingpeasagain.
Thank goodness for cheap, easy and convenient communication to keep us all, like, connected.

8 Lovin's:
I could not agree more. Jeff and I have agreed that there will only be one tv and one computer in our house. Our kids will have to learn to share just like we did. We will be those 'mean parents' who don't let their kids have the freedom of digital entertainment in their room.
Hah! I'm so glad we got rid of cable. TV time is reserved for after Emma is in bed, and we are trying to relax. We hardly ever watch tv. Maybe 5 - 10 hours a week. That's it. I don't know how people keep up with so many "stories" when they have a family.
Ha! If we didn't love DirecTV so much, we'd probably be guilty of taking advantage of this! E & I have two TiVo boxes. One in the bedroom one in the living room. Many times there are at least 4 things on at the same time we want to watch so we TiVo them all and watch 'em when we can.
But there is no way I'm putting a TV in Cubby's room. Sorry! There's no reason for it! Honestly, there is so much more to do than sit in front of the TV anyway. The only time I get to watch TV is when Cubby is napping (rarely) or when he goes down for the night and I can squeeze in an hour.
Nice :) we do have two TV's - one in the living room & one in our bedroom, but we rarely use the one in the bedroom... I've got a few DVR'd episodes of The Backyardigans and Wow Wow Wubzy just in case I can't get E to stop moving long enough to fall asleep and need to catch her attention so she'll zonk out... it's come in handy once or twice... usually though when hubs is home (he works nights) we're fighting over the remote and what we're watching (hubs loves sports & hunting shows... I tolerate them mostly) :) I have to admit though - we do buy paper plates sometimes... a trend hubs grew up with and brought to our marriage & household... we don't use them all the time, but as I'm an avid hater of washing the dishes I don't mind having them sometimes!! I spend so much time washing bottles, sippy cups, baby utensils, grown-up utensils, plates, cups... one day I'll have a dishwasher though... one day...
M- Sometimes... i LOVE the way you make a point! ( who am i kidding.. not just SOMETIMES!)...... TOTALLY agree with you...
In our house, we have ONE TV.. we have only 8 channels, and we ALL sit and eat dinner together at the table in a room WITHOUT that TV.... Besides.. what fun is a family movie without snuggling and fighting over blanket corners!
Computer will be in ONE central room, and no child who isnt driving or working needs a cell phone! I'll expect my child to have a number i can call at the LOCATION they are at.. i dont believe in portable numbers for children!
We know our children will hate us at times ( just as we did our parents)... but I believe.. its good for them! Even though times have changed, some rules and facts of life shouldnt!
I love your post!! It is so true - things today drive me crazy! My kids do not have tv's in their room (and never will) and my hubby and I don't have a tv in our room either. We have 1 that we all share :) And I make 1 dinner each night that everyone eats - there are no other options.
ROFL! This is so true how some, not all people live these days. We all need to get back to the basics and cherish every day we have on earth and with our children and family. Thanks for sharing :)
