I will admit that I do not always find my job easy. I really dislike scrubbing showers and the endless mountain of dishes that never goes away. I'd prefer not to vacuum under Moose's high chair 4 times per day. I don't always (ahem...ever) jump for joy at the sight of a neglected and therefore overflowing laundry basket. Some days I am tired or sick or lazy and I'd love to just sit and let the maid clean the mess. But...since I am the maid...I try my best to keep things neat and orderly. Some days I am better at it than others. It is something that I admittedly have to work at.
Cooking is much more fun to me than cleaning. I love to bake (although I try not make sweets too often unless they are for my husband. I just don't need the temptation), barbeque or slow cook. Making food for my family is a great pleasure to me, unless it is the end of our two-week shopping break. Then it is much less pleasurable because the cupboards seem awfully bare and I spend a lot of time staring at the empty fridge wondering what to make and wishing we could just order out.
Being Mom-by-Occupation is not all hard work, though. I get the enjoyment of playtime! I also have yet to miss a milestone of Moose's, which in my opinion is pretty amazing.
I love playtime. I love worktime (okay okay, maybe not love). I really love naptime. Bottom line? I love being Wife and Mom full-time. Even when I am tired, feeling like I need a break from the 24/7 demands of being a Mommy and Wife, I know that there is no other job in the world I would rather have. I do it as a labor of love to my family, just as my husband works very hard as a labor of love for those of us at home.
I am very thankful to be able to stay home. I am thankful to God for providing us with the means. I am thankful to my husband for his hard work to make it possible. And I am thankful to my son for making it so much fun to be a Mommy.
Now speaking of playtime....

7 Lovin's:
I totally get what you mean. granted no baby . . .yet. But when I went on my last job interview (the job I have right now) they asked me what I wanted to be growing up. I said to be honest I wanted to be a stay at home mother. I never had career plans outside of getting married and having kids. 26 years later and a career that I have been in for 6 years I wonder what happened, lol. But I am thankful for the toughest job I will ever love and one day maybe my dream will come true of having endless dishes, dirty clothes and diapers. Cause nothing would make me happier in life than making my home a home with family and lots of love. Yeah!!! For Moose and Muffin having a mommy that rocks. Oh and a hard working daddy too.
Very nice post! :o) I too would love to be a SAHM or even a WAHM, but we just don't have the means at this point in our lives. Maybe someday. Thankfully though, the way things stand right now, either my husband or I will be home to witness all of Shaun's milestones. We have staggered schedules and a video cam to catch it for the one who happens to be working at the time (not saying we'll catch it the first time, but we'll try).
My most desired career would be to be a SAHM and do all the things you mentioned...but for the most part, on most days...I'm a working momma who does my best to still make my home as homey and loving as possible! :o)
Sorry that was a bit wordy, but thanks for posting...I really enjoyed it! :o)
Thanks for the reminder!! I love the photos!
Truly a blessing for you! :) I'm enjoying my "mommy" role more and more these days and am CRUSHED that I'm returning to work full-time after the holidays... :(
thank you momma.. for sharing how hard it is what we do.. and for reminding us how grateful we are for being able to do it!!

You have such a wonderful way of putting into words exactly how I feel about something. How do you do that??? Love this post, and the blog.
