Voices of the Faithful Book 2 Review

I recently read Voices of the Faithful Book 2: Inspiring Stories of Courage from Christians Around the World, a compilation of stories with Introductions by Kim P. Davis and Beth Moore. This book is a daily devotional book of evangelical stories from Christian Missionaries who have served around the world, from right here in the United States, to Romania, to the Middle East, South America and beyond. The book is formatted by subject and dates. An entire month will be devoted to a particular topic, such as “Be Encouraged,” “Prayer the Priority,” and “Lost and Found.” I found this book to be very easy to navigate. For those who have very little time to read, just a short half-page story on the corresponding day makes a perfect daily devotional.

Each story affected me as a Christian in a different way. Some were inspirational, some were astounding, some made me so thankful for every blessing in my life. Some were a little silly and didn’t affect me at all. There was one particular story that I found to be particularly moving called “God Has a Plan.” However, I felt that the subject matter of the stories moved me more than the writing itself. The writing alone I found to be a bit immature. I think that in the interest of keeping the stories short they were too simply written. Unfortunately I think that part of the message was lost, and it forced the reader to actively engage in the book rather than the book engaging the reader.

Overall I found this a worthwhile read, but certainly not a page-turner. Which I suppose is the purpose anyways, to be a daily devotional rather than a book read in one or two sittings. I would recommend this book as a daily read.
